Privacy Policy – Govna.uk

Last updated: March 2026

At Govna.uk, we take your privacy seriously. We are aware that this is exactly what every website says, including several that have subsequently been fined by the Information Commissioner’s Office. We intend to be different. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain English, what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it – which is considerably less than certain large technology companies whose names rhyme with “Froogle.”

Who We Are

Govna.uk is operated by Nafzger Media Group, a digital media company publishing political satire and independent journalism. Our editorial director is Alan Nafzger, PhD (University College Dublin). For privacy-related enquiries, please use our Contact page.

What Data We Collect

Data You Provide Directly

If you contact us via our contact form or subscribe to any newsletter or updates, we collect the information you voluntarily provide – typically your name and email address. We do not sell this information. We do not share it with political parties, government departments, or lobbyists, several of whom have historically shown an interest in lists of politically engaged citizens.

Data Collected Automatically

Like most websites, Govna.uk collects certain information automatically when you visit, including:

  • Your IP address (anonymised where possible)
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and time spent on site
  • Referring website (how you arrived here)

This information is used solely for the purposes of understanding our audience and improving site performance. It is not used to build advertising profiles.

Cookies

Govna.uk uses cookies – small text files stored on your device – for the following purposes:

  • Essential cookies: Required for the website to function correctly. These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Used to understand how visitors use the site. We use privacy-respecting analytics tools where possible.
  • Preference cookies: Remember your settings and preferences across visits.

You may manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect your experience of the site. For more information on cookies, visit the ICO’s guide to cookies.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

  • Operate and improve Govna.uk
  • Respond to enquiries you send us
  • Send newsletters or updates, if you have subscribed and consented
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data to send unsolicited political communications. We leave that to the political parties.

Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Contact form submissions are retained for a reasonable period to facilitate follow-up. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

Your Rights Under UK GDPR

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via our Contact page. We will respond within the statutory timeframe, which is one calendar month – or faster, if we are having a quiet week.

Third-Party Services

Govna.uk may use third-party services for functions including analytics, comment moderation, and content delivery. These services operate under their own privacy policies. We select third-party providers with reasonable data protection standards and do not share personally identifiable information unnecessarily.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. We encourage you to review this policy periodically – not because we expect it to become exciting, but because it is good practice.

Auf Wiedersehen, amigo!
