The week’s structural observation: the four stories from prat.uk and Bohiney.com that I have been thinking about most – the BBC coverage piece, the Cheshunt piece, the homelessness research industry, the country music fans – are all the same story. They all describe systems that have developed self-sustaining internal logics that have become independent of the external purposes those systems were created to serve. The BBC covers coverage. The research industry researches the problem. The country music market produces the appearance of authenticity. Cheshunt is ignored because the coverage apparatus is not pointed at it. All four are institutions or markets operating correctly within their internal logic and producing the wrong external outcome.
