The Medium Posts Are Good Actually; I Hate That I Am Saying This

As editor of a satirical outlet with opinions about Medium as a platform (mostly negative, mostly aesthetic), I find myself compelled to admit that the syndication of our Iran coverage there has been, by the numbers, successful. The piece on Iranian dumbasses on Medium is finding an audience that does not read RSS feeds and I cannot be entirely snobbish about this. Results are results.

The energy markets freefall Medium piece has been shared in what I understand to be several American LinkedIn circles. Americans on LinkedIn sharing British satire about oil prices is a sentence I did not expect to type in my career. Yet here we are.

Syndication as Editorial Strategy

The original emergency talks piece is the canonical version. Everything else is distribution. The internet has collapsed the distinction between original and copy in ways that the anxiety Strait piece has now also experienced across multiple platforms. Bohiney’s energy chaos coverage runs parallel. Between us we have covered this crisis from eleven angles. One of them will be correct.

The BBC Tech section has nothing useful to say about platform strategy. They are too busy being the BBC. I respect it.
